Overview: Under general supervision of the ASC Director or ASC Supervisor, provide day-to-day oversight of operations and insures that the department runs smoothly. Is responsible for the care and safety of the patients within the ambulatory surgery center and assists with the supervision of professional and nonprofessional personnel in the ASC.
Schedule: Average 40 hours per week
The initial training period may require full time availability. Please ensure you are available to attend training before applying to this position. Sites vary in their hours of operation. As a result, a teammate may be required to work on holidays, weekends, evenings, or night shifts. Additionally, factors such as workload and patient needs may require variations in work schedules, job assignments, and number of hours worked.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Note that these requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required performing this job. Knowledge: Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice and the nursing process in evaluating and giving patient care knowledge of meds used pre-op, intra-op and post-op; knowledge of the function and use of patient monitoring equipment. Skills: Patient teaching skills, good organizational and telephone skills. Attention to detail and numerical accuracy. Abilities: Reads, speaks, understands and writes clearly in English. Works with initiative, energy and effectiveness in a fast-paced environment. Ability to apply the principles and methods of professional nursing to provide quality patient care. Ability to interpret basic EKGs; knowledge of aseptic technique. Ability to work efficiently amidst ongoing distractions; ability to communicate effectively in written form; ability to work independently with minimal supervision. ability to respond calmly in an emergency situation; ability to reason and think logically to solve problems; ability to use judgment and make decisions; ability to perform work against deadlines; ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness; ability to effectively lead others; ability to speak clearly and concisely. May also involve the ability to deal effectively with others in confrontational situations
Education: Associates degree, Diploma, or Bachelors degree in Nursing.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in area of responsibility (e.g., POH/PACU; operating room; GI endoscopy) required.
Certificate/License: Current State Registered Nurse License required. Current BLS and ACLS certification (within 3 months of hire) required. PALS certification preferred; may be required after hire. Membership in professional organization representing area of responsibility (e.g., Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN), American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), or Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA)) preferred. Certification in area of responsibility (e.g., AORN, CAPA, CPAN, SGNA) preferred.
